One year ago, everything in our lives boiled down to one fact. God loved us, wanted the best for us and He was in control. We handed our sweet Isaac over to very capable doctors and started a process that would test the faith we professed as much as anything ever had.
Isaac's condition and surgery changed me and I'm not sure I'll ever know an area where it didn't have some impact. It's part of his story. It's part of our testimony. I wouldn't change it (though I wouldn't care to go through it again). One year later, he is a ball of fire. He is strong-willed and full of life. He is loud, funny, care free and everything I would have ever wanted in a second child. He adores his brother. He does things in his own way and on his own time line (ahem..walking at 18 months). He's going to be an incredible young man. He's going to ask someday about this surgery experience and my prayer is that he will see two parents who sought out the very best for him and in the end, lived out their faith, along with an extended family who literally prayed him through it.
A year has passed which seems unreal. The emotions come back easily driving down I-4, looking at photos or simply washing his hair and seeing the scar. Today will be a day where we glorify God yet one more time for his miraculous healing and for choosing to give us Isaac to share our life with.
This short video is a compilation of photos from the surgery week and of Isaac throughout the rest of his first year. I've included some of my favorite scriptures as well as excerpts from my blog. It's best viewed when you have speakers to hear the song, too :)
